Welcome to an important part of East Bay history!
Built in 1841, the Joaquin Moraga Adobe in Orinda is the oldest surviving residence in Contra Costa County.  It has been recognized as a California State Historic Landmark since 1954 (landmark #509), and was designated as an Orinda City Landmark in 1995.

The Friends of the Joaquin Moraga Adobe are dedicated to preserving this important landmark and working to provide community access to the building and grounds.

Friends of the Joaquin Moraga Adobe
The Friends of the Joaquin Moraga Adobe is a group of community members from Orinda, Moraga and the surrounding area who are interested in the current and future status of the Moraga Adobe.

The Friends have come together in reponse to a new opportunity to work with the owners of the adobe to improve access and preserve the building,, which has always been privately owned and not open to the public

The group held its first exploratory meeting on Feb. 9th 2009 at the home of former Orinda City Council member and mayor, Bobbie Landers.  The attendees included the current mayors of Orinda and Moraga, Sue Severson and Dave Trotter, board members of the Orinda Historical Society, and other local residents.

The group is still in the early stages of identifying possible plans for the adobe and grounds. Some members have toured the property with the current owners, and more visits are planned in the future.
